Forehead Thermometer for Adults

When a loved one comes down with a fever, you need an accurate body temperature to determine if a fever is present. However, temperature readings can vary depending on which method is used.

Whether you're feeling run down or got sick from your child bringing home a virus from school or daycare, you'll need a reliable thermometer to use at home.

The temporal artery method is the best way for adults to get quick and accurate temperature readings.

Why Forehead Thermometers are Ideal

They are non-invasive, which causes less discomfort compared to other methods, including using an oral or ear thermometer.

With a non-invasive forehead scan thermometer, it's easy to take the temperature without disturbing them from sleeping.

Of course, you should always use a digital thermometer to check your temperature and avoid using a mercury thermometer.

Accuracy of Temporal Thermometers vs. Infrared No-Touch Devices for Adults

Accuracy matters when taking the temperature of an adult, older adult, or senior that have come down with an illness or infection.

While temporal artery thermometers and infrared no-touch thermometers are both non-invasive methods to measure body temperature, they are not the same regarding the accuracy or reliability of measuring body temperature.

No-touch thermometers are less accurate because they measure the temperature on the skin surface rather than the temperature of the body's core. Conversely, the temporal artery method scans the forehead area for the temporal artery, which measures the temperature of the blood flowing through the temporal artery on the forehead.

There are several studies supporting the accuracy and reliability of temporal thermometers.

How Adults Can Use a Temporal Thermometer

Follow the steps below to accurately take the temperature:

  • Place the thermometer sensor in the middle of the forehead.
  • Press and hold the scan button.
  • Slowly move the thermometer across the forehead toward the top of the baby's ear. Make sure it always touches the skin.
  • Stop at the hairline and release the scan button.
  • Remove the thermometer and read the temperature.

Once you have the temperature reading, you can use this body temperature chart to gauge the level of fever in adults.
